Since “Wetten, dass …?” Frank Elstner has become an integral part of the German TV landscape. In his last book, Lanz Elstner spoke completely open about his life, the devastating diagnosis and his fears.
He admits to being the world champion in denial, he did not even notice the beginning and the first signs – especially since the doctors did not even realize at first that he was really suffering from Parkinson’s.
It was not until he was found sleeping in a friend’s bathroom three years ago, where he sorted the towels in the middle of the night, that he realized something was wrong. Sleepwalking and Parkinson’s could be brought together. When the first bites fell off his fork while eating, he finally had to admit that something was different.
Nevertheless, Elstner does not want to speak of despair after his Parkinson’s diagnosis.
Staying connected to life-elements like happiness, positivity, and hopefulness is essential to those of us with a progressive neurodegenerative disorder like Parkinson’s.
